Summary vs Response

The main difference between a summary and response essay is the summarys lack of emotion and personal feelings. A summary is plainly informative where a response has its intentions to get some reaction out of the reader, whether agreement or not.

12/3

The reading i enjoyed best was 'Leave no child inside.' I'm part of this generation written about thats losing interest in the outside world and growing to love the tech world. You can see it before your eyes the decreasing number of kids playing in their front yards, running around getting grass stains. It's depressing to know that times are changing so much, especially to our parents. The reliance on tvs and computers to spark imaginations is pathetic.

'what ive learned concerning research papers'

I can honestly say to this day I havent really learned too much dealing with writing a research paper. Virtually no instruction was given in highschool besides the generic examples given in a fifteen minute session and then we moved on. I think my main issue is the simple fact that I've had no real experience writing one and most success comes through repitition.

Like/dislike about arguing draft

The intial problem with my draft was its length, or lack of it. Details concerning what sort of compromise both sides would come to is necessary to add as well as more specific details concerning the credentials. Not much more can be said except it definetly was as rough as they come.

Counterarguments regarding topic?

The position i took regarding urban/academic growth vs. preservation of natural lands was more of a middle fence. The constructive approach i used didn't really call for one side taking priority over the other. Both the school board and their developers as well as enviornmentalists should be rewarded ,(almost entitled), their piece of the pie. Colleges should be expanded in respect of the growing population but the surrounding lands need protection to ensure a continuing life for them.

Local issue

Sovi. The freshman dining experience that boasts great selection and fresh quality of its food. Having been to the Perch and seen its feckless care of things, i was all too ready to try out Sovi. First sign was the odd, parallel AND limited parking offered. The second we circled the stations offering various foods we also noticed the waiting lines behind them. So many students all choosing to eat at Sovi all choose to wait ten minutes for their petite-sized meals. What happened to 'they're growing kids!" Just when you think all is not lost and opt for the cereals, there is no milk. So you switch your course to the ice cream machines and grab for the absent cones...throw up your arms and leave.

state/nat'l issue

Immigration has been a rising issue facing Florida since the early 60s. With the waves and waves of both legals and many more illegals, our social order has been thrown out of whack, taking hits to social security and taxation mostly. I personally think as a nation born from immigrants seeking freedom, we should extend our help to those seeking the 'american dream', and not just turn them away becasue of sour feelings. I do believe however, we should focus on limiting those crossing our borders to ensure their legality and helping those illegals to get their citizenship as well.

Favorite movie

My favorite movie as of right now would have to be Pineapple Express. I know that sounds like a typical stoner movie, (in reality it really is the best stoner movie), but besides all that it's ridiculously hilarious. I couldn't even count the times I sat there in the seat shaking with laughter, even occasionally bursting out in screams. The jokes are so simple and the plot is so out of the ordinary that I could watch it again and again. It also helps that James Franco is a lead character and he's smokin! haha

peer review

I think the peer review can help it pointing out what you, as the writer, overlook in writing. My review personally, helped me feel that I wasn't turning it in without someone else's approval first, it sort of boosts the confidence. haha. Other that that, not too many criticisms were made by my classmate to make me change anything. Actually none were made, making me feel like it wasn't too well read. I guess, in truth, the first time I turn it in will be the first real readthrough.

observed

Back In Pembroke Pines is where my highshool years were spent. Some of the kids who were still in school had obviously not grown up, failing to see their immaturity and continuously wrapping themselves in drama. All, especially the seniors, seemed to place themselves on top of this invisible pyramid and found it to be 'cool.' Maybe it's the town they are still living in..with no thoughts that their are still many levels left on the pyramid to climb. To some, highschool never ends.

How to finish my essay

Definetly the first thing to do would be to reread it because i only just wrote it and moved on. I need to go over it and see what details might need to be added or what material is meaningless and take it out. Another paragraph in total might be good to add just for length and a little more depth. Another important thing would be to make sure all the paragraphs flow, that the end of one makes sense with the start of the other. If not, maybe some rearrangement would help. The final thing would be a spelling/grammar check. voila

Sept 10

AHHHHH!!!!! I really don't get how people voluntary choose to be an English major, (no offense Dr. McClure), but I just don't find the point in reading a book such as the Everyday Writer. I mean don't get me wrong, i love to read novels, but reading a book about reading just seems a waste of time. It doesn't pull you in, it has no hook, and doesn't feel like you're progressing whatsoever throughout it. I feel like I'm running on a treadmill, it gives you the illusion that you're going somewhere but in the end, you're standing in that same exact place.

Greatest Achievement

My greatest achievement...In highschool i was apart of the varsity water polo team for three years, two of those i was captain. Before i joined, i had never even heard of the sport and even more did not expect it to be as difficult as it was. The training, practices, and games, the two of which involving guys, were all more than enough to make you quit within the first week but i stuck it out. Senior year i was named MVP and also too, a Broward County Scholarly Athlete, me being one of the eight chosen from our school. This was such a fulfilling moment because in the past i had a tendency to quit things when they got tough but it showed me that if you just keep pushing on, the reward will be great.

Sept 3

My writing process is probally the most time-consuming, repetitive activity I do. There really is no palce or time, it's always random or usually on the day before it's due...Yea procrastination is not advocated by teachers but i find it helps me get it done and successfully most of the time. The worst is just sitting down and starting it. I constantly think and rethink and rethink again each and every phrase, and sentences, woo, get me really going. Normally I'm satisfied with my writing but i have a bad habit of making my writings too short.

1st year reading experience

Ishmael Beah's A Long way gone was definetly more difficult for me to read, there was so much emotion in each chapter, yet it was written in such a numb tone. The prompt i chose was very engaging beacuse we all come across those selfless people in our lives that lend a hand regardless of what it may cost them..Hearing Ishmael speak in person was a crazy experience because here you are listening to someone who's whole life was on display to you, and it being the life it was and him still standing there through it all was very moving...as corny as that sounds.
